The eight different factions on Terminus: A Final Fantasy Roleplay are a massive part of the plot. For this reason, each and every character is required to choose a faction upon creation. More about these eight unique factions can be read about in that section of the site, which is recommended before committing to one.

Characters from different factions may choose to work together, but will ultimately be competing against each other to steal the plot's spotlight and become the central focus of things.

This is where influence comes in. Many events, along with a item and gil reward, will come with a reward in the form of influence; which is often rewarded in a different manner than the other rewards. This ultimately boosts one faction's popularity and global influence (hence the name) and lowers all of the others.

Other than being able to gloat that your faction is on top, earning influence has purpose, as mentioned earlier. The faction with the most influence will be eligible to sign up for special events that pop up over time, events that have much greater rewards and impact on the grand site plot than other events.

In short, the faction with the most influence will become the protagonist faction.
